Tell me a little about your background. Where did you grow up? What was your favorite job before WorkFaith?

I grew up in Birmingham. I was a stay-at home mom for many years. WorkFaith helped me to prepare a resume that helped me build my credentials. I did administrative work for a logistics company I co-owned. I was also a full-time mother which was a big job. I loved doing both of those things.

What challenges did you face that lead you to WorkFaith?

Due to some difficulties in my life, I was not employed so I went through the class. I struggled with knowing how to do a resume. WorkFaith taught me how to do that. Now I don't have any trouble doing a resume.

What were your biggest takeaways from the workshop both spiritually and practically?

Spiritually, I learned how to be patient with myself, and understand the process of going through the difficulty I was going through. I was angry with my situation. WorkFaith showed me that God uses the difficult times to get us to where He wants us to be.

I learned how to take my time and let growth take its course. It is a process, it isn’t overnight.

How did that help you find success in the workforce?

It gave me the tools I needed to be confident in whatever jobs I applied for. It taught me to self-examine myself and understand that it isn’t as hard as I thought. It taught me that is O.K. to ask for help. Not everyone will judge you and there will be people to help you get to where you need to be in life.

WorkFaith is a place where you can build yourself up to success without being judged.

You are working toward IT certifications in our Magic City Pipeline Program, what has been most impactful of the entire program so far?

It has shown me that there is something I can do. The program is an opportunity to learn. This program is hard but is set up to help you win. It gives you the opportunity for growth.

The mentoring is wonderful. My mentor is an awesome person. She has a gift from God. She has helped me with my confidence and has encouraged me to never doubt myself. Having someone to believe in you…It is an extra blessing from God.

We are currently interviewing you at The JeffCo 2nd Chance Hiring Fair, where you are volunteering. We love to see our alumni giving back. Why is that important to you?

It is important because it keeps you focused. To be able to help someone else in a similar situation helps you grow and learn how to be that help to someone else in need.

If not for WorkFaith, ...

I probably wouldn’t be where I am today. The progress I have had, the confidence I have… I wouldn’t have it. I would probably still be in a struggling place. My mind has gotten stronger working with WorkFaith.

Anything else you want to share?

I have learned to be in a diverse group of people. No one is the same or struggles the same. Being with WorkFaith and being around other people who have experienced different things allows us to come together and help each other. WorkFaith is like a family. It is nice to be able to pick up the phone and just call when I have a rough day.
