It’s been 10 years, but I still remember the great boost in confidence I found in the workshop, and how I gained a fresh perspective on my job search. After landing a career job, I began to “pay it forward” by giving financially and donating interview clothing because of my gratitude for WFB’s assistance to the community.
Reflection....
I will never forget the date - August 5, 2013. I was given notice that my job was going to be outsourced to India as of December31, 2013. For the first time in twenty years I would be unemployed. I decided to move back to Birmingham from Alpharetta, GA to be near my mother and sister. I took advantage of the 30 day program provided by my former employer to give transitional assistance in March 2014. I thought would have a job within 90 days. Wrong, Wrong, Wrong. I soon became discouraged, frustrated and spending my payout faster than I planned.
In July 2014 I became a member of New Rising Star Baptist Church. I heard about Work Faith through the New Members Class. I expected to Iearn one new thing if the program was worthwhile. I did learn one thing - how to do a cover letter. I hated doing it so I didn't. Mrs. Smith taught me how to focus and customize the letter based on the job I was applying for. However, I gained much more - new friends and a renewed spirit. I was refreshed and ready to start my job search again.
It is all about timing if you let go and let God. I am proud to say that one month after my August graduation, I had a job offer. The interviewer was impressed with my effort to get a contact name for my cover letter. It was not the right position or company. God blessed me with another job opportunity a few weeks later. I have been employed as a tax specialist with CRC Wholesale Group since October 2014. To God be the Glory. However, the story does not stop there.
I am in the best small group. I look forward to my weekly conversations. My group leaders are very encouraging. Their close walk with God is reflected whenever we interact. The topics are on point and provide me with the growth l need in critical areas such as patience.
I cannot say "Thank You" enough to the Work Faith organization, staff and volunteers for the awesome experience during this trying time in my life. May God continue to bless each one of you. You are doing a great job!!!"
